Advisors/Lab:
Prof. Mark Bathe

Bio:

Matthew graduated in 2018 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University, where he studied protein structure and computational protein design in the lab of Costas Maranas, as well as in a lab in Germany via the DAAD RISE program. After rotating in labs studying a variety of research fields at MIT, he decided to stick with structural biology but switch from proteins to RNA. In Mark Bathe's lab, Matthew is developing methods to solve 3D structures of large RNA molecules  (in particular, structured regions of the HIV genome) and characterize the structures of RNA origami nanoparticles.
